Just back from France – Alsace, Provence, Route Napoleon and Burgundy – a wonderful wine and history hit!
Here’s the statue of Bonaparte at Laffrey. On his return from Elba in 1814 he arrived here on March 8th to be confronted by Royalist troops. He challenged them to shoot their Emperor, they dropped their rifles and rallied to his side and the way to Paris was open. That return led, of course, to the battle of Waterloo.
I’ve been inspired to write three novels and one non-fiction book focused on Waterloo. You can find them in the Themes section of my Books pages.
My latest non-fiction book is out now – Driving Through Georgian Britain. Read all about it here.
Now I’m about two thirds of the way through the first draft of the third book in my Time Into Time series – to be published August 1st (I hope!) It can be read as a stand-alone, but if you’ve read the first two, this is Garrick’s story.
